Christmas Time - Family

Magical time of the year

It's the most beautiful time of the year like Andy Williams said. It's my favourite holiday of the year too, so many pretty lights, Christmas trees lit up, white snow, which makes all the streets look so clean and tidy. All of the dishes cooked ready for the family to sit down together and eat.
Even all the rush and busy-ness close to Christmas, when everyone is making sure everything is perfect, don't bother me. But that may be because I don't work in retail?

The most important reason why Christmas is the best time of the year is that you get to spend time with your friends and family. Whether you head home for holidays or travel to a beautiful destination, the Christmas season is the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with your friends and family before the new year.

I have recently come across a short video showing a poor girl, who goes to school and gets picked on by her friends because her family doesn't have a lot of money. No one wanted to be friends with her. She lived with her granddad, who walked her to school every morning and that was one of the reasons why she was picked on at school.
The granddad seemed like an old man with a heart of gold. One day she came home crying, her granddad asked what was wrong, she replied 'they laugh at me because I'm poor'. He replied 'Honey, being rich is not about how much you have, but how much you give; for example a smile. One day you'll understand'. She started walking dogs in the neighbourhood and saving money. She saved enough for a Christmas present for her granddad, when she went to the mall she met her 'friends' from school which threw all her money all over the floor, as she went to pick it up one girl came back and the poor girl gave her a keyring. She told her with a smile 'One day you'll understand'.
During Christmas dinner, she gave her granddad a present, then she heard a bell ring. It was the girl from the mall, she came to give her a present and spend some time with her. She understood. The present that the granddaughter gave was a hearing aid, which meant the granddad could hear better now. The girls spent the night singing Christmas carols and dancing around.

This little video truly moved me and made me think about spending time with my family a little more. Sometimes we are so caught up in the materialistic things in life that we don't realise that the most important thing we can give someone is priceless. Simply if we give ourselves fully (and by that I mean, give our attention) to those who love us, we will live a much happier life. Isn't that what that's all about, happiness & love?

Merry Christmas!
lots of love, Mal x
